I guess everyone has noticed the increasing popularity of smoothies the past few years. A smoothie is always a synonym of a healthier choice ( not to be confused with a milkshake, though). There are endless opportunities to make your smoothies healthy and delicious at the same time. This can be done by adding fresh fruit like bananas, strawberries, mangoes or anything you have on hand and pair them with some good antioxidants and natural food supplements such as spirulina, chlorella, mama powder or even matcha.
I am a smoothie fanatic. I usually like my smoothies in the morning, as they are easy to digest and give you a boost of energy for the start of the day. I honestly don’t really have any smoothie recipes, as smoothies are actually the easiest things to whip up with whatever you have on hand or in the fridge. I usually try to include bananas or mangoes ( or even avocados) for a smooth consistency, then some yogurt or non-dairy milk for a nice texture, some food supplements such as maca& chlorella ft boosters, something to bind the smoothie like chia seeds or oats, and then anything else I feel like adding ( which can be dried fruit, fresh seasonal fruit or frozen ones, greens of any kind and so on). Really, smoothies don’t have any limits. The recipe below is one of my very typical breakfast smoothies during the winter, and feel free to replace or omit any of the ingredients you don’t have or don’t like.
***
Ingredients:
2 tablespoons thick greek yogurt
1/2 banana
1/3 mango
1 teaspoon honey
1/2 cup orange juice (freshly squeezed)
1/2 teaspoon maca powder
1/3 teaspoon spirulina
1/3 teaspoon chia seeds
1 tablespoon oats
1 tablespoon melted coconut oil
water as desired
Serves 1-2 portions
Add all the ingredients except of the coconut oil into the blender and pulse. Add water until you get the preferred consistency, then add the coconut oil while the blender is still running, preferably on high. In this way the coconut oil blends well with the rest of the ingredients instead of chunking up.
One smoothie a day keeps the toxins away :)
